ZANZIBAR DIARIES : PART 1

ZANZIBAR DIARIES : PART 1

Zanzibar stole my heart! It’s very picturesque, perfect and inarguably the most beautiful place in the world. What with the blend of the old world, a bit of modernity and a hint of nautical pleasure along the beaches.
The beach view from Pakachi beach resort

This is a trip I would make over and over and over again.

The trip to Zanzibar was terrific. It took 2 hours from JKIA Nairobi to Dar Es Salam by air and an extra 2 hours to Zanzibar by the Kilimanjaro speed boat. We however had a layover in Dar for the night. The cab guy we met at the airport showed us a budget hotel not so far from the airport. We were to fly out to Zanzibar island the next morning but when we got to the airport, the dates on the tickets had been swapped. Which meant we had not been booked on that flight at all. We tried calling the flight office back in Nairobi but being the holidays their offices were closed. Plan B was to get to the island by speed boat which is by far the best thing that could have happened. The view as you approach Zanzibar by boat is out of this world!

We stayed at Pakachi Beach Resort – a beach resort with several bandas or cottages overlooking the ocean. The resort is on Paje beach. Other beaches are Kinondo and Nungwi.

We had made the booking a few days prior to the trip. The owners Steve and Angela were very warm and nice. I cannot wait to get back again.

Zanzibari culture is great and the people are polite and laid back. The beaches are pristine, skies are blue and the water is magnificent. Keep reading for more adventures in Zanzibar.
